Good old punk rock

We had a theme about tinfoil and I decided to go back to basics. I did switch my drum mics around, replaced the $30 condenser I had on the snare top with a 57 and took the bottom snare mic, which is just a $15 pyle 57 knock-off, and put it on the side snare. Obviously, now I want two more inputs to put bottom snare mics on both. Oh and the fun part is nothing sounds any better. Anyway, the track is over in punk.

Another Vocaloid

We had a theme of forgery. Kept falling into ‘oops out of time to get a good guitar take, oops out of time to get a good bass take, guess those drums will have to do, oops out of time to try and save this mix’ trap. Anyway, it’s over in Vocaloid.

A vocaloid but not a good one

I felt like doing an easy 120 bpm Em jam with our theme of Elevator. Since I was just noodling around and half the tracks were first takes, I had almost enough time to add vocaloid. Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite enough time and I still don’t have a decent workflow for that tool. It’s over in Vocaloid.

Bringing back the SM7b

I spent 2024 using an NT-1 outside of the vocal closet for 95% of my vocals and i think I preferred the SM7b with a Cloudlifter a lot more. The NT-1 had been doing double-duty as a 2nd room mic on the drums, and i have to make a choice about whether to put it into the vocal closet or rig up a stand for it to still be a room mic. This week i used one of those $35 dollar mics setup high and far.

The mics, however, are not the limiting factor with this week’s track, i still had time for a couple more drum takes but i’d been watching a tutorial on some rimshots and sorta… made my hands way too tired and couldn’t hold the sticks anymore. The theme was ‘Betrayal’ and I put it over in punk.
